4 Ways to Get Rid of Burnt Popcorn Smell in Your Frigidaire Microwave

Your Frigidaire microwave was designed for ease and convenience — so what do you do when one too many bags of burnt popcorn is causing a smelly inconvenience around your kitchen? Popcorn is easy to burn, and once it does, it can be tough to get the smell out of your microwave. Here are a few tips to get your Frigidaire smelling fresh and new after even the worst popcorn mishap.

1. Lemon Water

4 Ways to Get Rid of Burnt Popcorn Smell in Your Frigidaire Microwave

Steamed lemon water should be your first line of defense against unpleasant odors in your microwave. It's a natural alternative to harsher cleaners, with the added bonus of smelling great! First, fill a small, microwave-safe bowl with water, then cut a lemon in half and squeeze all the juice into the bowl. Drop both lemon halves in when you're done, and microwave the whole bowl for about 3 minutes. Keep an eye on the lemon to make sure the rind doesn't burn. The citrus-scented steam should work its way deep into your Frigidaire, getting rid of odors and making surfaces easier to clean.

When you're done, leave the door closed for 5 to 10 more minutes to allow the steam to settle in. Once you open the door again, use a damp cloth to wipe down the inside of the microwave. Your microwave should be left smelling citrusy and fresh.

2. Vinegar

If lemon water isn't enough, up your game with a bit of vinegar. This won't leave your microwave smelling as delicious as lemon water, but it should do the trick of eliminating odors. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water — about a cup each — and put them in a microwave-safe bowl. Repeat the same steaming trick as you used with the lemon water, and microwave the bowl for about 3 minutes. Leave the door closed for a bit longer this time, then use a sponge or scrub brush to clean the insides of the microwave. If the smell persists, it's time to move on to the next method.

3. Baking Soda

Baking soda is a powerful deodorizer and should be able to effectively knock out any remaining popcorn smells. Mix a big spoonful of baking soda into a shallow bowl of water, so that that the mixture is thick but still liquid. Microwave the bowl for about 5 minutes, then let it sit in the microwave for about an hour. For especially pungent odors, try leaving a box of baking soda in your Frigidaire overnight. No need to turn it on — the powder should absorb any stray odors on its own. If that's still not enough, you still have one last trick up your sleeve…

4. Coffee

Coffee can be great at both drawing out and covering up unwanted scents. Put some freshly ground coffee into a bowl and mix with about half a cup of water. Like the previous methods, you should microwave the bowl for about three minutes, then let the bowl sit in the microwave. Remove the bowl, then clean and dry all surfaces inside your Frigidaire. This should replace the burnt popcorn scent with a delicious coffee aroma and absorb the last of any lingering odors.
